Job Summary / Organizational Impact

Responsible for Quality Assurance activities to insure new and production products consistently meet customer requirements in accordance with Company standards. Coordinate and direct the routine activities of customer complaints, corrective actions, supplier quality development, etc. for the Quality Department and stand in for the Quality Manager in their absence.

The effectiveness of this position bears directly on the operating performance of the Company.

Responsibilities and Essential Function

1. Lead the corrective action efforts internally and assist suppliers as required, utilizing 8Ds methodology. Manage communication and relations between RLH and the customer as well as between RLH and suppliers if needed.
2. Support the Quality activities related to development of new products and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP).
3. Support Supplier Quality Engineering initiatives with regional suppliers (perform audits, monitor performance…).
4. Participate in continuous improvement efforts for product quality and/or process efficiency or safety.
5. Assist in inspection related measurement or testing as needed.
6. Perform related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn new programs including Navision, and Docuware.
  • Must possess exceptional communication and customer service skills, and be able to communicate well with others, internally and externally.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented. Must be able to manage many projects simultaneously and be able to switch focus frequently while maintaining overall effectiveness.
  • Must possess good decision making and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend engineering drawings. Knowledge of rubber and plastic as well as molding, stamping, machining, and other manufacturing techniques.  Knowledge of various standards, practices, & specifications including ASME, ANSI, ASTM, SAE, RMA, Plastic Molders Guideline, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.  Basic understanding of tooling, fixture, and gage design preferred.
  • Ability to use metrology and statistical methods to diagnose and correct improper quality control practices.
  • Knowledge of all elements of the PPAP sample documentation requirements including the ability to coordinate the APQP process

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical Engineering Preferred)
  • ASQ Quality Engineering Certification (CQE) preferred
  • Lean / Six Sigma Green Belt Certification preferred
  • 4 plus years of quality related experience in a decision-making position
  • Experience with rubber or plastic product preferred
  • Experience with manufacturing processes related to rubber and plastic product including extrusion, compression molding, and injection molding preferred.
  •  Knowledge and working experience with AIAG core tools (APQP, PFMEA, SPC, MSA…)
  • Experience working on an IATF16949 environment
  • Able to challenge the status quo looking for continual improvement promoting team work.

SPECIAL JOB DIMENSIONS:

• Some travel may be required to customers and domestic or international suppliers.

• Flexibility to answer emails and/or have conference calls with factories at night is very helpful.

• This position is occasionally exposed to the following environmental conditions: subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and/or other hazardous materials, sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level and one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation
